AREA: 27.5 acres (9 acres green area)

The new quarter for Liesing, the 13th district of Vienna, will be a large mixed use development on the site of a former brewery. This area is well connected to the general transportation system of Vienna and the addition of housing, offices, community oriented facillities, and a major shopping center will establish this area as a vibrant component to Vienna’s urban spectrum.

The new scheme creates an open and integrated urban concept where commerce, culture and housing work together to establish an exciting new place. Centralization of cultural function in the old Landmark Silo brings life deep into the place creating a crossroad of divergant activities. The semi-open, hyperactive shopping mall, at the edge of the development, stradles along the existing commercial street and creates an urban space slightly hovering over the street and garage area. Lofting over the shopping street are the office slabs which are accessible from the garage and shopping level. Recreation and cultural facilities, in the transition zone, offer an area for sports and organized cultural activities. The housing is differentiated through varying typologies, pointlike highrises, slabs and penetrable ground floors connect the existing green of the site to the new urban center and the city core beyond.
