HAN RIVER MASTERPLAN

LOCATION: DA NANG, VIETNAM

DATE: 2008

PROGRAM: HOUSING, COMMERCIAL, RETAIL

SIZE: 680,000 SM 3500 UNITS OF HOUSING

The project is located at a very strategic development area of DA NANG, south of the TUYEN SON bridge in the NGU HANH SON district. Located on a major route between downtown Da Nang and the beach, this development becomes a visible gateway to the developing tourist areas of China Beach and Hoi An.

This project suggests new development standards for the Da Nang area by providing a combination of urban, residential and recreational development integrated with extensive commercial and retail components. It provides public space in the form of large retail & commerical areas and riverfront public park areas which combine with private residential marina development. This new development provides an energetic and balanced environment for living and working.

As an urban concept the project is seen as a gateway to the rapidly growing tourist area of Hoi An and China Beach. The strategic location on the east side of the Han river allows the development to face the city of Da Nang in a wide and prominent exposure. The design strategy centers around the following major urban concepts:

-Create a distinct and identifiable new urban center for mixed used development

-Enhance the scenic qualities of living and working on the Han riverfront

-Provide a variety of integrated housing, commercial and retail opportunities while connecting to the surrounding communities

-Enhance the public and recreational access to the Han riverfront by allowing the entire development to become a north/south connection.

-Create public parks and open space, as well as commercial, educational and recreational opportunities to support the newly created housing.

The site concept is developed with varied viewpoints in mind. A series of towers lining the Han River, supplemented with low-rise housing, create strong housing identity while still allowing for active streetlife. The new streets and parks continue to emulate the existing local developments. In this context, the site is seen as a generator of new development powered by housing as the basis of commercial and livability success.
