HERFRIED HOUSE

LOCATION: JUDENBURG, AUSTRIA

DATE: 2002

PROGRAM: SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE

SIZE: 800 SM

This building represents a partnership between the prefabrication company GriffnerHaus and MACK Architect(s) to create a custom designed home with the ease of factory built construction technology.

Situated on the western edge of Judenburg, within view of the Frauengasse Housing project, this three bedroom house is built adjacent to an existing garage building to the north and opens itself to the garden to the south with large windows and sliding glass doors. This project incorporates a two story masonry wall to shield wind and weather from the north and west. The actual house was designed, built, & tested in the factory with advanced wood composites. Cross Laminated Timber panels were used for walls, floors and ceilings and the structure sits on a concrete slab on grade. Some of the ceilings were left unfinished to expose the wood panel structure.

The main timber construction took only two days to erect and the finished house was complete in four months
