CANAL HOUSE
LOCATION: VENICE, CA
DATE: 2001
PROGRAM: SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE
SIZE: 3000 SF
Located on the canals of Venice California, this existing generic 1970s box was skillfully upgraded into a new residence for the Mack family. The complete addition including extensions of the front and back spaces, a new duplex apartment over the garage, a new master bedroom, added living space, and a new facade gracefully respect the privacy of other residents while simultaneously providing a sense of community in the neighborhood.
After undergoing a $3.7 million reconstruction renovation, the Venice canals have attracted the attention of many adventurous architects and designers. Meeting the canal design requirements, including a 30 foot height limitation, 3 foot side setback, and 15 feet setback in front, has not restricted the expressive nature of this design.
