CARLTON HOTEL

LOCATION: BEIRUT, LEBANON

DATE: 2004

PROGRAM: HOTEL & RESIDENCES

SIZE: 50,000 SM

The new Carlton Hotel Complex is located on the Corniche in Beirut and occupies a majestic position among the properties in this vicinity, not only by its situation on the promontory, but also by having great site width towards the sea.

The design for the hotel and the apartments is one of continuity and variation, with a three opening cut out of the massing for a more porous appearance. The pattern of the new hotel rooms expressed in its balconies and the strategically placed multistory openings compose an impressive yet playful structure. Through this patterning, a subtle division between the hotel, their penthouses and the apartments are made visible.

Facing the Corniche, a large canopy distributes hotel entry and the special functions area, which is underground. In the upper floors of the hotel there is a sky bar and nightclub. The pool for the hotel is on top of the entry area, looking over the corniche to the sea and is supported by restaurants, cabanas and the spa. The Apartments are accessed via the residential street. They are oriented to the sea view and have access to the spa facilities. The units range in size from 200-300sm on the lower floors, 325-500sm on the middle floors and 550-600sm for the penthouses. Accessed by high speed elevators these units have service staff quarters, extensive balconies and have access to the private garage with drivers' accommodations.
