BOGNER RETAIL STORE

LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

DATE: 1985

PROGRAM: RETAIL STORE

SIZE: 1,800 SF

The Bogner Fashion Store in downtown San Francisco extends the atmosphere of the street into the store to create a balanced yet intricate display area for clothing. Under the metal canopy entry a wood truss continues the street into the store. The arcade-like structure serves as a visual center and houses lighting, mechanical, and audio-visual equipment. The advantage of height is utilized to create a mezzanine-like storage system and poster display. Fixed bowed columns are used as display, vitrines, and visual support. In the panels, walls, and partitions, a concealed hardware system is employed to attach rods, hangers, telescope displays, and glass shelves. The window displays are on a raised area of the store floor, and serve as visual stimulation inside and out. The store achieves order through its strict axial layout, with display furniture playfully relieving the linear quality.
